A glossy oval onyx cabochon sits at the heart of this vintage 18ct white gold dress ring, framed by a broad, domed border of pavé-set diamonds. Approximately 1.25ct of champagne diamonds are arranged in graduated rows around the stone, with approximately 0.25ct of white diamonds picking out the lines between them. The warm cognac tones of the champagne diamonds soften the deep black of the onyx, while the fine white diamonds add a brighter edge to the surround. Pointed claws hold the cabochon, and the underside is worked as an open, petal-shaped gallery, a considered detail that is easy to miss from the front. The head measures 22 x 26mm on a smooth, polished shank, giving the ring real presence on the hand. It is a bold, confident cocktail ring that suits those who prefer a dark, dramatic centre stone to a traditional diamond.
