Hallmarked Chester 1914, this Edwardian hand brooch in 9ct yellow gold shows a delicately modelled hand holding a small flower of seed pearls clustered around a garnet. A small diamond is set into a ring on one finger, and a ruffled, textured cuff gives the wrist a soft, lace-like finish. Hand brooches belong to a long tradition of sentimental jewellery, and the small details here add to its charm. A heart-shaped padlock charm hangs from a fine chain at the wrist, and a safety chain and bar pin keep the brooch secure on a lapel, scarf or collar. The warm gold, creamy pearls and single point of red give the piece a gentle, romantic colour scheme. At just 35mm long, it is a small, characterful brooch with plenty to look at, and a pleasing find for anyone who enjoys Edwardian jewellery with a story to it.
