Old Cut Diamond Ring

A Georgian scroll ring in 18ct yellow gold and sterling silver, set with approximately 0.65ct of old cut diamonds. The openwork design is formed from intersecting curved lines, with graduated diamonds arranged through ribbon-like scrolling sections. The ring reflects the characteristic Georgian combination of silver-topped settings over yellow gold, used to enhance the brightness of candlelit diamonds. The asymmetrical composition gives the piece a lighter, more fluid appearance than later structured cluster designs, while closed-back settings and hand-finished details retain its period character. Delicate in scale but intricate in construction, the ring has a distinctly antique presence on the hand. The combination of open negative space, irregular old cut diamonds and scrolling movement gives the piece a refined sculptural quality typical of late Georgian jewellery.
