Olympic Torch 2012

As the Olympic Torch passes through our cities and towns with its brightly lit flame it had us wondering what the beautifully designed and crafted Torch is actually made of?

We discovered that the Torch is made up of inner and outer aluminium alloy skin and is covered in 8000 circles, which are held in place by a cast top piece and base of the triangular shape. The little circles represent the 8000 Torchbearers who will carry the Olympic Flame this year. The torch itself stands at 800mm tall, is lightweight but very strong at the same time.

In our opinion the torch has come a long way since its old grey days of base metal. Today it reflects modernity and beauty whilst still having the ability to hold the high temperatures of the flame within.

The Torch also embraces the three Olympic values of respect, excellence and friendship. The aesthetic beauty of the colour gold embraces the qualities of the Olympic Flame, which are the brightness and warmth of the light that shines from it.

If you are looking for something special this summer, visit Jenny Jones where we offer a range of gold jewellery and coloured gemstones. We also have a selection of charm bracelets within our Pandora range that represent friendship – one of the core values for the Olympics this year.
